Ohaiyo Gozaimasu!
Officially a Transfer 4 Missionary!
Woot.
It's almost 9:30 am here and the zone leaders have NOT called....which
means basically that we will be most likely recieving a transfer call.
I'm nervous...but it will be alright whatever happens.
Today we are going to Narita-san with the Narita sisters. Narita san
is one of the largest shrines in Japan. I'm excited. I want to get
some Japanese souvenirs too :)
I can't leave Japan without getting a creepy waving cat bobble head.
This week...... Super taihen. It was fast and busy and
all our investigators kind of flaked out on the lessons. Agh.
A mission is certainly a roller coaster.
We did find 2 new investigators though....so I guess that is good.
One of the investigators we taught...I think Lefevre choro has a crush
on....he "prepared" a Book of Mormon for her. We are just
like..."dude...back off our kyudosha!"
I've been here in Yachiyo awhile and I've learned alot.
I find myself getting cocky with the Japanese.... I'll think I
speak better than I do and then realize later that I said something
completely wrong. The Japanese people are pretty polite...they don't
usually correct me. I'm just embarrassed by all the stupid stuff I've
said in Japanese that makes zero sense. Alot of times I'm pretty sure I understand because I
recognize key words or something...but I usually am just missing
a key detail...and it changes the meaning completely.
I've been studying kanji alot lately. They kind of discourage us from
studying it... they want us to focus on the language. But kanji is
cool....not only how it looks and stuff...but if you know the meaning
of one kanji, you can recognize words when you hear or read them, that
have the same root...and so even if you don't know the full
meaning... you at least have an idea. When I studied spanish,
cognative words always helped me remember things and the latin roots
were very convenient. I think Japanese is much the same.
Foreign language is very interesting actually. The more I learn it,
the more I feel that it is like learning how to solve complicated math
problems. It really is a building/practice/pattern kind of thing. Once
you figure out how something works and the order and things...it makes
sense. I think learning this language is going to help me with my
classes down the road.
Enough of that though...This week was alright...minus the canceled
appointments. We went to the temple and to Hiroo. Ate alot of indo
curry.
Last night we ate at the Suzukis. They are such a cute couple. I
visited them the first week of my mission with Taneda shimai...and I
remember not being able to speak a WORD of Japanese. This visit...I
was able to talk and interact with them. When it feels like I haven't
progressed...sometimes I have to take a step back.
I love you and miss you!
