Minasan Konnichiwa
Today was a crazy week. We did a lot of member visits so that Taneda
shimai could say goodbye to people earlier in the week.
I met up with Lowry shimai on Thursday at a station in Saitama.
It was actually harder than I thought saying goodbye to my companion.
Having Lowry shimai around is still super strange.
But she's great and we speak alot of English!
Speaking of languages. My luck seems to be turning around. I really
have been able to communicate more recently.
My understanding has just clicked or something.
We did alot of finding in Okubo, an area with a university in our
area, on Friday. On Saturday we made a less active visit to Yachiyodai
and introduced Lowry shimai to I shimai. We had some fun housing
experiences....so all the Japanese people have these intercoms, and
when we rang the bell at this one house, this dog barked at us through
the intercom and then they hung up. It was so funny. And then we asked
one lady if she liked English and she just said "NO I HATE IT" in
Japanese and hung up the intercom. So it has been an adventure to say
the least.
Saturday night we had a ward Halloween Party.
We had some Eikaiwa students show up.
L shimai, one of our recent converts who is from Peru, asked me to
talk to her granddaughter A. A is fluent in Japanese and
Spanish. We talked for a really long time. She is the same age as me,
and sooo nice! She's also the prettiest person I've ever met in
my life. She's not a member...so we are hoping to work with
her.
The Chorotachi brought some investigators to the party. There was this
one guy who was a professor in Kyoto, but he has a winter home
here in Yachiyo ...well he was a former mechanical
engineering professor at Penn State. When he found out I attended
Georgia Tech, he got really excited and started asking me what my
major was. He then started telling me all these Biomedical Engineering
people he knewfrom Tech. Apparently, the president at Penn State used to be the
ME head at Tech....this guy was SUPER pretentious but....he attended
Yale and is part of all these Engineering organizations. He
asked for my email, because he is going to this BME seminar in Chicago
this month and said he would like to send me some material. He also
talked a lot about Jimmy Carter and told me that even though Jimmy
Carter was president, he was first and foremost a nuclear engineer
that graduated from Georgia Tech.
That reminded me a bit of my old life and of old professors.
The guy might be a very useful reference down the road. The Elders
told me he couldn't stop talking about how rare it was to find a
female engineer in Japan. He told me if the engineering thing
didn't work out, I'm attractive enough to marry rich and become a
housewife. So yes, I suppose it is nice to know I have options.
Yesterday we fasted and had church. We did alot of proselyting
yesterday too. After no results though...we came back and wrote our
presidents letter. Then Elder LeFevre called us and gave us 2
referrals. I think we really are like blessed when we work
hard. Just not sometimes in the way we expect to be blessed.
I really like my new companion.
She is from Rexburg. She has 7 brothers and sisters.
She's very chill, but she is motivated and likes to work hard. So I
think that is a great thing.
I'm working hard. I love you guys alot.
THis week I have a district meeting and interviews with President Budge.
Should be fun. Hopefully we are able to teach someone new.
I love you.
Ai shite imasu.
