"1 And it came to pass that the sixth week of the reign of the District Leaders did end.
2 And in the commencement of the seventh week of the reign of the District Leaders, Cottle choro was appointed."
Hello Kazoku! Konnich.
こにちは!オー元気ですか?
This week has gone by super fast. I don't really have my usual weekly breakdown. But as you can see from my introduction, we got a new DL sama and our Dai Sempi left.
It was really funny actually...there is this one Choro who had a crush on Moss Shimai and he left her this package before he left. Actually he mailed it to her MTC mailbox from the MTC instead of giving it to her...which was weird. But anyways, it had this Japanese fan in it and he had written on it "Ai shite imasu" which is "I love you." It was a little きまずい(kimazui or awkward)! Definitely stalker status but funny nonetheless.
Today is officially day 47 I think. We start week 8 on Wednesday which I can't even begin to fathom. In alot of ways I'm really going to be sad to leave this place....but on the other hand sometimes this joint drives me nuts!
I want to be in Nihon already!
I'm continuing to set goals here. I memorized the first vision this week, Ether 12:4, and now I'm working on the first vision in Nihongo. I've also decided to start reading the New Testament and
I'm about a quarter of the way through Jesus the Christ. My patriarchal blessing talks about my testimony of the Savior and while I definitely think the atonement is the foundation of my testimony, I'm striving to do what it says and "to learn about his life and his goodness...to follow in his footsteps." That's got me thinking alot lately about what it means to be Christlike. I'm trying to develop some of those attributes in myself.
I read and memorized Ether 12:4 this week and it talks about "Whoso believeth is God might with surety hope for a better world." きれい です ね? (Kirei desu, ne?- Beautiful, am I right?)
And I just wonder what good have I done in the world??? And I ponder how to contribute good to the world moving forward.
In addition to that reading, I've also started the Book of Mormon over. 2 Nephi is a struggle...those Isaiah chapters are kind of weird, but I'm almost in Jacob.
Also, I've started reading the BOM in Nihongo. It is a much slower process...Alot of senkyoshi don't even read the whole thing on their dendo, demo I'm going to set a goal just to read it once.
My district has been in sort of a weird mood this week. I'm thinking it has to do with the fact that we are all Dai Sempi now and we still don't have a clue. While I miss the playing around in class and stuff, I never have been able to sit in a class for very long, I will admit that I'm getting alot more done now. Now is the time to grow and to learn.
Personally I'm realizing that while I can speak decently about gospel topics, I don't know basics like....the weather or seasons. Here they really focus on just making sure we can testify and pray...we have learned a few good sentences that are useful in conversation. Japanese is just difficult because it is an SOV (subject object verb) language and in English we are usually SVO. Hmmm...this week we finished our bunpo (grammar) book...but the bunpo games live on....I seriously do feel 5 years old most of the time.
This week, as you can tell from my intro, I've been writing a history of our district. The Book of Nichi (Day) we call it. It's pretty hilarious if I do say so myself. I might have to send home a copy one of these days.
Oh! I got to exercise my official Portal Leader duties this week. We showed the kohai how to work the computers. All of the new districts in our zone are MASSIVE. All the Elders are 18 years old and there seems to be a huge decrease in the amount of sisters. I think there were 10 chorotachi and 4 shimaitachi in one district. They were all pretty rowdy...which made me happy to know that we are not the only ones. It seems like they are all heading to Tokyo too! So that's pretty sweet.
Oh I hosted on Wednesday this week. So that was cool. I also played basketball twice in gym, soccer once, walked around the MTC one day, and biked another day. Tellin you...thighs of steel. I'm kinda bummed that I've been in Utah all Natsu (Summer) and I have yet to climb a mountain. May have to sneak out of here one of these days.
Last night the shimaitachi did facemasks. It was such a hit. We all looked super kowai (scary). I will attach photos.
We had a surprise Skype Lesson this week for TRC. None of us had a lesson prepared and we had to teach a real Nihon-jin via Skype. She was adorable. I loved it because it made me feel like I could REALLY communicate in this language to a real Japanese person. And they actually understood me! I may or may not have accidentally told the lady that her testimony was scary...yeah so that was weird....demo in our lesson with Daniel-san, I said that he was very "slim" when I was trying to say he was "smart." I suppose its not as bad as the time Snow shimai and I told Shohei-san that he could tsumi (sin) with God in the Celestial Kingdom instead of sumu(live) with him...I anticipate more embarrassing moments are yet to come.
On Tuesday Gordon B. Hinkley's son spoke at the devotional...so that was neat.
On Sunday, this Utah bigtime newsreporter spoke in Relief Society. Her name is Carol Mikita, I think? I don't remember but I really enjoyed it.
I'm still waiting for an Apostle at a devotional. Maybe they broadcast counts as the apostle devotional. Oh well.
Lets see what else. The MTC is just getting pretty routine. We are supposed to be getting flight plans this week. It appears we will be flying out of LA. I'm assuming my visa is all good.
I think I covered it all...Get back to me soon! Ai shite imasu!
